SPOKANE — Challenger David Condon is leading incumbent Spokane Mayor Mary Verner in early election results.
The Spokesman-Review calls it a surprise comeback for Condon, who had trailed by 30 points in the summer primary.
The former aide to Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers campaigned against the police department’s decision to quit investigating property crimes and hammered away at community outrage over City Hall’s handling of a fatal police beating.
If Verner loses she would be the 10th Spokane mayor in a row to serve only one term.
