EVERETT — A Lynnwood man was charged Friday with raping and killing a Mariner High School student as she overdosed.
Brian Roberto Varela, 19, told detectives the young woman snorted Percocet and took a “dab” of liquid THC at a weekend party, when she collapsed in his room, according to police reports filed in court. He sent friends semi-nude photos of her dead or dying, court papers say.
“LOL I think she od’d, still breathing,” he texted, according to the court documents.
He told coworkers at Dairy Queen that he wasn’t sure if she was alive when they had sex, court papers say. One coworker went to police Tuesday. Officers found the body of Alyssa Mae Noceda, 18, stuffed in a black plastic crate in his home in the 400 block of Lakeview Road.
Varela told detectives that after Noceda died, he used her thumb to unlock her phone and hack into her Snapchat, to make her family think she’d run away from home.
Snohomish County prosecutors on Friday filed charges of second-degree rape, first-degree manslaughter and controlled substance homicide.
