WENATCHEE — Marijuana plants estimated to be worth more than $127 million have been seized in Chelan County over the past two weeks, and authorities say the growers are getting higher.
Higher in elevation for their illegal farms, that is.
Federal, state and local authorities say about 24,000 mature pot plants were seized at four sites Wednesday.
That brings the total for the month to 84,873 plants, each 5 to 6 feet tall and believed to be worth about $1,500.
No arrests were reported.
On Tuesday authorities seized 20,000 plants on land owned by Longview Fibre near Lake Wenatchee.
However, sheriff’s Lt. Jerry Moore says the contraband crop is being grown mostly on public land and at higher elevations in the past.
