LYNNWOOD — A 2-year-old child likely died of an apparent fentanyl exposure near Lynnwood on Saturday, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The toddler was in the care of his mother, 40, on Friday evening and Saturday morning, detectives reported. Shortly after the mother and child arrived at a Lynnwood-area apartment, the child became unresponsive.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday, sheriff’s deputies reportedly performed life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. The child was taken to Swedish Edmonds, where he died.
At the residence, detectives recovered drug paraphernalia and possible drugs suspected to be fentanyl and heroin, according to the sheriff’s office. Police impounded the mother’s car as evidence.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the child, as well as determine cause and manner of death.
The investigation remained active Tuesday.
