Q: We have problems with kids playing in the street and not respecting cars and their parents (especially in cul-de-sacs) allowing it with no adult supervision as young as 2. Is there any law to handle this or anything we can do about it? We have several times not been able to leave our driveway for up to five minutes because of kids not moving. Also, is there any law about parking in cul-de-sacs?
Margaret Sexty, Everett
A: Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said in a cul-de-sac or any street, pedestrians, including children, must yield to vehicular traffic.
"I suggest that the complainant speak with the parents in the neighborhood in order to resolve the situation," Jorgensen said. "Most problems can be resolved with communication."
If the situation continues, she said, ask a deputy to have a chat with the children and their parents.
The law relating to parking in a cul-de-sac or any street is: Vehicles may not park within 10 feet of a mailbox or within five feet of a driveway.
