SULTAN — Sparks from a chimney started a roof fire Thursday that spread to the attic of a home in the 14800 block of Reese Road.
Passersby saw flames and started fighting the fire with a garden hose around 2:30 p.m., said Merlin Halverson, fire chief for Snohomish County Fire District 5 in Sultan.
Firefighters from Sultan and Gold Bar extinguished the fire within about an hour, Halverson said. No injuries were reported.
Halverson reminds those with wooden roofs to clear moss and debris from the roof before using the chimney as chilly weather sets in.
