House Speaker Frank Chopp told reporters this afternoon that no one in his Democratic caucus is agitating to help University of Washington tap into tax dollars to renovate Husky Stadium.
And Chopp said that while he’s open to looking at the idea should it surface in legislation, he is not going to push it.
UW is interested in gaining access to $150 million in tax revenues generated in King County to cover half the estimated cost of the project.
When Seattle Times reporter Andrew Garber asked Chopp if it was fair to say the public financing idea was not going to happen this session, the speaker said: “That’s fair to say.”
I would think that pretty much puts the kibosh on it.
