Get Movin’ gets going again this summer
Get Movin’, the Snohomish County program launched last summer to get kids to exercise, begins from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Everett Mall.
There’s no charge to sign up, but parents must be on hand to register their kids.
There will be free Get Movin’ T-shirts for the first 1,200 kids, a health fair and raffles for bikes, jump ropes and other prizes. Similar to a summer reading program, it offers incentives to kids to be active for at least 30 minutes five times a week.
The half-hour of activity five times a week can be divided into 10-minute segments. Incentive prizes include free passes for swimming, bowling, climbing or skating.
Families can register either at the Saturday kickoff event or until July 16 at local YMCAs, parks and recreation departments and the Providence Pavilion for Women and Children. For more information, call Providence Everett Family Resource Center at 425-304-6000.
The program was inspired by The Herald’s yearlong series of articles on childhood obesity.
Foster care review board asks for help

The board is a part of the Snohomish County Juvenile Court system and performs the three-, six- and nine-month reviews of kids in foster care in the county. The focus is to determine how the kids are doing and if the parents are complying with court-ordered services.
