Tonight Everett’s City Council plans to make a decision about allowing antique stores downtown on Hewitt.
I wrote about why they got banned in the first place here.
A couple of things to note about the changes city leaders are voting on. There are still some places along Colby, Wetmore and Rockefeller where they wouldn’t be allowed. The antique places on Hewitt would have to be open 8 hours a day, five days a week at least. They also have to have a prominent window display.
Finally, the city is not allowing them directly around the area where Colby intersects with Hewitt. The reason given is that the city doesn’t want antique shops near the downtown banks along Colby. When that was brought up a few weeks ago, councilman Ron Gipson shook his head and told city staff that would be something he planned to have a more thorough discussion about tonight.
Take a look at tonight’s agenda and details about the changes here.
