The City Council has selected its new representatives for Community Transit and Snohomish County Tomorrow meetings.
Former Mayor Bob Kraski had been the city’s representative for both groups for years.
Kraski’s replacement, Mayor Margaret Larson, was chosen to represent the city at Snohomish County Tomorrow, a regional planning group.
City Councilman Ryan Larsen was selected as representative for Community Transit meetings.
The council also renewed its support of Lake Stevens City Councilman Jack Blackwell as the regional representative on the Snohomish Health District board.
Bothell
Council picks Ewing as mayor
The Bothell City Council has selected Patrick Ewing as its new mayor by a 5-2 vote, and Mike Johnson as deputy mayor, unanimously. Each position is a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2005.
Ewing has served on the council since 2002 and was on the planning commission before that. He works as a software engineer for Boeing.
Johnson was elected in November and has served on the planning commission. Johnson is a roadway design supervisor with Seattle.
Edmonds
Civil service meeting canceled
The regular monthly meeting of the Edmonds Civil Service Commission scheduled for today has been canceled.

Everett
County GOP women to meet
The Snohomish County Republican Women’s Club will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Everett Elks building, 2731 Rucker Ave.
The speaker will be Michelle Robles, a Mountlake Terrace planning commission member and an opponent of the siting of King County’s Brightwater sewage treatment project in Snohomish County. She is scheduled to speak at noon, and lunch will begin at 1 p.m. The public is invited.

Drainage district meeting tonight
The Drainage Improvement District No. 8 commissioners will discuss unpaid assessments and the 2004 commissioner election at its meeting at 7 tonight at the district office, 1911 Vernon Road.
Other agenda items include a discussion of the 2004 flow monitoring program and the district’s audits for 2000, 2001 and 2002.

Coalition meeting at Alfy’s Pizza
The Lakewood Community Coalition has scheduled a meeting at 6 tonight at the Smokey Point Alfy’s Pizza, 3405 173rd Place NE.
The coalition is a nonprofit anti-drug organization. Part of the meeting will be to prepare for the coming of the Parent Party Patrol Jan. 29. The patrol is a substance abuse prevention program to alert adults how to recognize and prevent the dangers of drug use in their community.

Meeting on park canceled Tuesday
The Lynnwood Parks and Recreation Department canceled Tuesday’s meeting to discuss the 33rd Place W. Neighborhood Park because of inclement weather.
The parks board meeting also was canceled.
Another meeting to discuss the 60th Avenue Park will be 6-8 p.m. Jan. 20 at Crossroad Assembly of God Church, 18527 60th Ave. W.

New mayor now on two boards
The City Council has appointed new Mayor Dennis Kendall to represent the city on Snohomish County Tomorrow and the Community Transit Board.
Snohomish County Tomorrow is a countywide planning advisory group made up of city and county officials.
The CT board meets to discuss issues important to the transit agency.
City campus
ribbon cutting set
City officials and other leaders will attend a ribbon cutting to open the new Marysville Community Campus, but a grand opening will be delayed for better weather, Parks and Recreation Director Jim Ballew said.
The ribbon cutting will be 5-6 p.m. Jan. 22 at the campus, 7431 64th Drive NE. The remodeled facility, which previously was a driving range, will be used primarily for meetings.

City passes
two-year audit
The city recently passed its two-year audit with the state Auditor’s Office, which said the city complied with state laws and regulations and its own policies and procedures.
The auditor noted some minor “issues” to city managers in a separate letter, but did not specify what those were in the final report.
The city is usually audited every year, but because of city and auditor’s workloads, this year’s audit covered two years. In the past five years, the city had one audit finding in 1999 for late financial statement reporting. The auditor’s report says past audit recommendations were acknowledged.

Extra garbage

Because of bad weather, the Monroe city waste management was not able to pick up garbage last Wednesday.
Those customers who were missed may put out extra garbage at no extra charge today at their regularly scheduled pickup area.
Mountlake Terrace
Recreation open house at pavilion
The Mountlake Terrace Recreation Department is holding an open house with a tropical theme, “Where Summer Never Ends,” 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.
Festivities include the Saturday market, dance classes for all ages, racquetball lessons, an indoor playground for children 5 and younger, other games and a recreational swim at 1 p.m.

Council elects its officers for 2004
The new City Council has picked John Sullivan as council president and Bruce Richter as vice president.
The meeting was the first for Jennifer Gregerson, Donna Lansberry and Tony Tinsley, all three new council members who were voted into office in November.
Snohomish
Meeting, hearing rescheduled
Tuesday night’s Snohomish City Council meeting was canceled because of the snowstorm.
The meeting was to include a public hearing on the proposed design standards for buildings outside the city’s historic downtown district.
The meeting, and the hearing, is rescheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Snohomish School District Resource and Service Center, 1601 Ave. D.
Stanwood
Fire hall move delayed by snow
The Stanwood Fire Department postponed moving into its new 14,000-square-foot fire station at 8117 267th St. NW because of Tuesday’s snow.
Firefighters have rescheduled the move for Thursday.
