PORTLAND, Ore. — Several dozen Clark County residents demonstrated Monday outside the Bonneville Power Administration headquarters in Portland.
They’re objecting to plans for a high-voltage transmission line between new substations in Castle Rock and Troutdale.
The Columbian reports that BPA says the line is needed to improve the transmission grid between Seattle and Portland.
The agency is considering several alternatives that would cut a 150-foot-wide swath through the county’s suburban landscape, erect 15-story towers and string 500,000-volt lines.
The protest group, calling itself Better Way for BPA, called for the agency to consider routing the line along existing transmission lines, through forested areas or underground.
