LYNNWOOD — The state Department of Ecology is taking public comment on a legal agreement to clean up lingering pollution from a former gas station property near Edmonds Community College.
An agreed order between the state and owners connected to the lot at 6808 196th St. SW outlines options for the decontamination process.
There’s a coffee house there now. A gas station operated on the same spot from 1959 to 1974, then a lube center from 1977 to 2006. In 1995, an underground storage tank for lube oil was removed and old oil tanks were closed in place.
Studies show lingering soil and groundwater contamination from petroleum products and related compounds. The state also reports soil contamination from naphthalene.
The comment period on the clean-up order is set to remain open through Aug. 6.
