A close King County District Court race is likely to force an automatic hand recount of more than 2,000 ballots at Snohomish County election headquarters in Everett.
Voters cast ballots in the race from several King County cities, including Bothell, which is in both King and Snohomish counties.
Richard Pope won 24,512 votes in the race for Northeast District Court judge and will advance to the November general election, according to preliminary results.
The second and third place finishers – incumbent Mary Ann Ottinger and Frank LaSalata – are within the hand recount requirements of 150 votes and 0.25 percent. LaSalata has 22,394; Ottinger has 22,373, according to preliminary results.
