STEVENS PASS – A landslide has blocked U.S. 2 in both directions near Stevens Pass, state Department of Transportation officials said.
Crews hope to clean up the mess and reopen the road by late afternoon, said Jeff Adamson, a transportation department spokesman.
Today’s landslide occurred where a massive avalanche came down on Saturday.
The busy highway over the Cascades has been closed intermittently for the past two weeks because of heavy snow and avalanche dangers.
The road was closed for 56 hours beginning Friday as one avalanche after another hammered the highway, Adamson said.
Stevens Pass ski resort plans to reopen Tuesday after being closed for several days, according to the resort’s Web site.
