Coalition to discuss Centennial Trail

The Snohomish-Arlington Trail Coalition is meeting to talk about the Centennial Trail being extended nine miles north this summer.

Mayor to reveal budget reductions

Mayor Ray Stephanson on Wednesday will announce $3.5 million in cuts to the city’s budget.

The mayor will detail the cuts during the weekly City Council meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m. in the council chambers, 3002 Wetmore Ave.

County schedules special sessions

Island County Commissioners have scheduled two special sessions this week.

They will meet in a public hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the County Commissioners Hearing Room (Room 102B) of the Island County Annex Building, 1 NE Sixth St., in Coupeville, to discuss establishing a municipal court in Langley.

At noon Wednesday in the same room, the county’s elected officials from Oak Harbor, Langley, Coupeville and the port districts have been invited to a joint council of governments. They will discuss rural economic development and restoring the Monroe Landing airfield for public use.

Seven interviewed for council seat

The City Council will interview seven candidates for a vacancy on the council 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the City Council Chambers, 806 W. Main St. The interviews are open to the public.

The candidates are Michael Donow, Mark Hansen, Shawn Murphy, Eric Peterson, Mitch Ruth, Bob Riordan and Robert Wilcox.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of Councilman Jim Hunnicutt, who stepped down after the council amended its ethics ordinance, which he said weakened the law.

The council and the mayor will likely select an interim council member in April. The appointee will serve until the November general election. For more information, call 360-794-7400.

Easter events set for April 10

The Snohomish Chamber of Commerce and Bickford Ford-Mercury invite the public to the 24th annual Easter Parade on Saturday, April 10. The parade begins at 11 a.m. on First Street between Union Avenue and Avenue D. Children 8 and younger can participate in an Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. at Pilchuck Park.

Council pulls back on impact fees

The City Council has canceled a public hearing about new traffic impact fees. The public hearing was to be part of the council’s regular meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 10220 270th St. NW.

The council wants more time to work out the details of the new fee schedule.

Sultan

Council extends hearing on growth

The City Council will continue a public hearing on its comprehensive plan update at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at 319 Main St. The comprehensive plan will determine the guidelines for the city’s growth in the future. For more information, call City Hall at 360-793-2231.
