LYNNWOOD – A woman who was driving the wrong way on I-5 was seriously injured Thursday in a head-on collision at 164th Street SW that blocked the freeway for two hours, officials said.
Jacquelyn Geirke, 67, of Mill Creek, was listed in serious condition Thursday at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby campus, a nursing supervisor said.
Geirke was driving a Buick northbound in the southbound lanes of I-5 when her car collided with a southbound Honda Accord, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The accident occurred about 6 p.m. Three lanes of I-5 – the high-occupancy lane and lanes two and three – were blocked until about 8 p.m., the State Patrol reported.
The driver of the Honda, John Hughes, 59, of Delta, B.C, and a passenger, Nancy Cox, 49, also of Delta, were still in the emergency room at late Thursday Providence and their conditions were not known.
A second passenger in Hughes’ car, Isaac Triplett, 3, of Seattle, was not injured, state troopers said.
