EVERETT — The federal government says Comcast Corp. has agreed to pay nearly $190,000 and to hire more minorities to settle allegations of discriminatory hiring practices at a call center in Everett.
The U.S. Department of Labor says the money will be given as back pay and interest to 96 current and former female employees who were channeled into lower-paying jobs than male colleagues, as well as to 100 black, Asian and Hispanic applicants who were disproportionately rejected for jobs.
The hiring practices at issue occurred from March 2006 to September 2007.
As part of the settlement Comcast said it would hire up to 31 women or minority workers to remedy any discriminatory practices. It also agreed to self-monitoring measures to ensure that its pay practices comply with the law.
