EVERETT — A citizens commission tasked with deciding fair pay for Snohomish County’s elected leaders has deferred action until late April, after failing Wednesday to reach an agreement.
A vote is now likely at the 6 p.m. April 25 public meeting of the Citizens Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials. The venue is the sixth-floor executive conference room at 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.
The group has been meeting since mid-March. Any salary increase would take effect Jan. 1, 2013 and last through the following year. Any decrease would take effect only after an elected official concludes his or her current term.
The 10-member commission includes experts in personnel management as well as people chosen by lot from voter rolls.
On Wednesday, only one member of the public testified during the meeting, asking commissioners to keep salaries the same as they are now. A motion to raise all elected leaders’ salaries by 2.25 percent per year failed.
Discussion at the next meeting is likely to include whether some positions, including the sheriff, the auditor and the county clerk, deserve a salary boost to reflect the high level of responsibility of their office.
