offers her ideas
Author Dia Calhoun will share the toolbox of ideas she uses to construct fantasy stories at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Arlington Library, 135 N. Washington Ave.
The program is geared toward students in grades five through eight.
Calhoun will be available after her presentation to sign her books, which will be on sale.

Children’s music classes to start
The Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is offering "Tune Tales: Serendipitous Spring Flurry," a hands-on singing, dancing and puppetry class for children ages 17 months to 3 years with adult supervision.
Classes are 9:30-10 a.m. Wednesdays April 21-June 9 at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. The cost is $112, with a $10 materials fee.
The Crescendos class, for children 3 to 5 years old with an adult, gives children the chance to learn music theory and ear training. Classes are 10:15-11 a.m. or 11:15 a.m.-noon Wednesdays April 21-June 9 at the Frances Anderson Center. The cost is $120, with a $10 materials fee.

Be prepared
for a disaster
Snohomish County Fire District 1 is offering free Community Emergency Response Team training for people interested in helping during a major disaster.
The classes provide information about basic disaster first aid, search-and-rescue operations, how to put out small fires and the psychological effects of a disaster.
The classes begin April 19 and meet 6-10 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays at Mariner Fire Station, 12310 Meridian Ave.
The class is free, but students will need to create or purchase a home disaster kit and purchase personal safety equipment to participate in some class activities.

The Camano Senior and Community Center presents its annual luncheon and a "gently worn" fashion show at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the center, 606 Arrowhead Road.

City officials have added an information page on annexations to the city’s Web site, www.ci.lake-stevens.wa.us. The page explains the basics of who can apply for annexation to the city, the benefits of annexation, the process and how to get information.

The Lynnwood Eagles plan an indoor garage sale 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdayat the club, 19223 Highway 99.
The Eagles will serve breakfast 9 a.m.-noon and have baked goods for sale as well. The event is open to the public.
The Eagles welcome gently used household items, toys, books, garden tools, costume jewelry and clothing. Fifty percent of the proceeds will be earmarked for children’s services at Providence Hospital’s Sexual Abuse Center through the Fraternal Order of Eagle’s Jimmy Durante Fund. Mariners trips
The Marysville Parks and Recreation Department offers five Seattle Mariners day trips. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis for the following games: May 18 against Baltimore, $20; June 7 against Houston, $20; Aug. 25 against Tampa Bay, $28; Sept. 14 against Anaheim, $20; and Sept. 18 against Oakland, $28.
All the games begin at 7:05 p.m. except Sept. 18, which begins at 1:05 p.m. For those games that begin later in the evening, the bus will leave Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road, at 5 p.m. The bus will leave at 11 a.m. on Sept. 18. The cost includes a game ticket and the bus ride to Safeco Field.

Council adjusts mitigation fees
The Mill Creek City Council recently determined that newly adopted mitigation fees for land development projects were calculated incorrectly. The error has been corrected, resulting in a 3.2 percent savings for land development projects in the city. No traffic mitigation fees had been collected under the new program, so no refunds or fee adjustments were necessary.

Participants get free health screenings, as well as body composition, osteoporosis, height and weight, blood pressure, and resting heart rate tests. The event also offers cholesterol screening for $15.

The city is hosting its fourth annual Volunteer Community Cleanup Day at 9 a.m. April 24 at the Terrace Park School parking lot, 5409 228th St. SW.

Yacht club holds general meeting
Mukilteo Yacht Club plans a general membership meeting at 6:30 p.m. April 22 at the Old Mukilteo Garage, 807 Second Ave.
The meeting begins with a social time. Then Dave DeHaan from the Everett Fire Department will discuss boating safety and fire protection.
Members are requested to bring an appetizer or wraps for the potluck, and the club will provide fruit.

City progresses
in trail project
The city recently advertised phase one of the Riverfront Trail project for bids. Bid opening is scheduled on April 28. Construction of the $2.19 million project may start as early as June 1.
The project will improve and extend the Riverfront Trail, which was damaged by a flood in 1995. About 75 percent of the funding came from state and federal grants, and the rest from the city. The project will create no new taxes for residents. For more information, call 360-568-3115.
