Kids run in Lake Stevens for health and fun
The UnitedHealthcare IronKids Lake Stevens Fun Run raced around North Cove Park in Lake Stevens on July 20.
UnitedHealthcare mascot Dr. Health E. Hound joined Lake Stevens Mayor Vern Little and more than 100 kids ages 3 to 15 and their families on the 1-mile course. The event aimed to encourage exercise and healthy lifestyles as a way of preventing childhood obesity.
The company handed out free tickets for the IronKids event to children from the Lake Stevens Boys &Girls Club and Sea Mar Community Health Center.
VFW honors flag-friendly businessman
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 of Lynnwood recently presented the VFW Patriotic Citizen Award to the Lynnwood business, Mr. Kleen, for displaying the U.S. flag every day. Owner Ted LaVigne was awarded a certificate.

Donors help free-roaming kitties
The nonprofit Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project of Lynnwood recently raised $3,810 in gifts to support spays, neuters and rabies vaccines through a Groupon Grassroots social media campaign.
An anonymous supporter matched the first $1,000 raised.
Feral Cat Spay/Neuter Project alters approximately 8,000 cats each year to reduce euthanasia in local shelters and minimize the suffering of free-roaming cats caused by overpopulation.
