Snohomish police officers honored
The Snohomish Rotary recently honored detectives from the Snohomish Police Department.
Detectives David Fontenot and Karen Conley were awarded a certificate of appreciation for their outstanding service to the community.
Fontenot and Conley described their experiences during an eight-month investigation in which 17 people were arrested.
Snohomish Rotary names president
Bob Knight is the new president of the Rotary Club of Snohomish. Knight relieves former president Jim Church.
Other club, board and committee members include Robin Furlan, Lisa Caldwell, Fred Havener, Rick Homme, Pat Knight and Pete Reeder.
Knights of Columbus elect new officers
The Knights of Columbus recently elected new officers to council 763.
Members are John Reed, Chris Shambro, Lucas Lusier, Cliff Spjut, Norm St. Denis, Arlyn Shrum, Larry Kosar, Neil Keefe and Mike Endert.
Trustees are Steve Johnson, Len Rochon and Stan Jozefczyk.
Gene Brown was named Knight of the Year and Erv and Frauna Hoglund were Family of the Year.
Second place for Lake Stevens girls softball
Lake Stevens girls all-star softball team, ages 9 and 10, took second place for their division after losing to South Snohomish in the championship.
All of the girls plan to play next season.
Tulalip charitable fund awarded
Assistance League of Everett recently awarded the Tulalip Tribes with the National Operation School Bell Award.
The Tulalip Tribes Charitable Fund has been a continual financial supporter of the nonprofit for more than eight years.
“We are sincerely grateful for the support from the Tulalip Tribes Charitable Fund and appreciate that they recognize the quality of service Assistance League of Everett provides to those in need,” said Judy Benson, former president of Assistance League of Everett.
The fund works to improve education environment and promotes parents’ involvement in the education process.
Operation School Bell is the primary charitable program of Assistance League and provides new school clothes to children throughout Snohomish County.
Arlington mayor presented with flag
Arlington Kiwanis member Laura Kuhl recently presented Arlington Mayor Margaret Larson with the Kiwanis scholarship flag.
The flag was donated by congressman Rick Larson after it had been flown over the capital building in Washington D.C.
Kiwanis Scholarship Auction raised more than $2,000 in donations that will go toward a scholarship for an Arlington high school student.

Golf club raises over $1,700 for charity
Harbour Pointe men’s golf club in Mukilteo recently raised more than $1,700 during a charity golf tournament for Heartbeat, a nonprofit organization that supports wounded warriors and their families in the state.
Hot dog sale aids Sky Valley Food Bank
The Monroe Grocery Outlet recently sponsored a hot dog sale to benefit the Sky Valley Food Bank.
Neil Watkins, director of the food bank, and his wife Kathy cooked and served.
The food bank will use the $178 in proceeds to help feed local families.
The sale was held as part of the grocery outlet’s Independence from Hunger food drive. Donations will be accepted at the outlet until July 31.
Zonta Club of Everett awards scholarship
The Zonta Club of Everett recently awarded Siyu Lu of Lynnwood with the Jane M. Klausman Scholarship.
The award is for young women pursuing undergraduate degrees in business management. The scholarship will help Lu complete her education at Edmonds Community College. She plans to complete an associate arts degree by next year and then transfer to a university to study finance and accounting.
Fire, police host safety fair
The Lake Stevens fire and police departments recently hosted the Health and Safety Fair.
The annual event helps educate community members on health and safety tips for life. A few local participants received prizes from the free raffle.
Raffle winners are Sierra Walker, conference center winner. Joey McKinney, classroom pizza party winner. Lyudmyla Jones and Sandee Acevedo, library book winners and Jocelyn Galvan, Pet Pros gift basket winner.
“Thank you to all 30 agencies who participated in the Health and Safety Fair this year,” said Laana Larson, communications director for the Lake Stevens Fire Department. “The investment of time and resources in our Lake Stevens community is greatly appreciated.”
Beds for Children gets grant of $5,000
The Elizabeth A. Lynn Foundation of Seattle recently awarded Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Snohomish County $5,000 for the Beds for Children program.
Funds will provide 33 beds for children in need. For some children, the bed will be their first, said Daria Roche, executive assistant for St. Vincent de Paul of Snohomish County.
“The joy on their faces as they see the bed and bedding is a delight and they are always very grateful,” she said.
