Scouts earn Eagle rank
Four Eagle Scouts of Troop 18 were honored at a recent Eagle Court of Honor at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Hall in Everett.
Andrew Chin’s Eagle project was the installation a two-zone drip irrigation system for the community garden at St. Mary Magdalen. The garden supports the local St. Vincent de Paul food bank. Chin is a marine biology major and honors student at the University of New Haven.
Liam Hogan’s Eagle project was at Fort Ebey. He led a team of volunteers that cleared an extensive area of overgrown brushes for a campsite and installed a large fire pit and park benches. Hogan, who also earned the Boy Scouts’ high adventure “Triple Crown” participation award, attends Thomas Aquinas College in California.
Logan Wheeler’s Eagle project was the installation of flower beds at Endeavor Elementary School in Mukilteo. Logan recently graduated from Kamiak High School and Everett Community College’s ORCA program. He plans to attend Montana State University.
Corbin Wheeler, Logan’s brother, renovated the outdoor classroom area at Endeavor Elementary School for his Eagle project. He attends Kamiak High School.
All four Eagles Scouts are members of the BSA Order of the Arrow honor society.
Bikers rev up $2K for food bank
Star Touring and Riding Chapter 428 held its annual poker run on behalf of the Sky Valley Food Bank on June 26. The event raised $2,394.
“Our thanks to this great group for all the support they have given the food bank over the years — they are truly amazing,” said Neil Watkins, the food bank’s director.
Fire District honors employees
Snohomish County Fire District 4 celebrated the accomplishments of many of its members at a June 10 event at the Snohomish Senior Center.
Along with service awards and retiree honors, the district handed out special recognition awards:
EMS Provider of the Year: firefighter and paramedic Dave Lacy
Instructor of the Year: Lt. Darrell Heike
Officer of the Year: Battalion Chief Jason Hodkinson
Co-Firefighters of the Year: Brent Marty and Aaron Hammer
Group Health adds bling to senior van
Group Health offers financial support to Senior Services of Snohomish County. The two groups recently celebrated that “Healthy Living Partnership” with the debut of new branded wraps on vans.
The vans, used for the Transportation Assistance Program and Dial-a-Ride Transportation, help seniors get to medical appointments, shopping and activities at senior centers. Group Health also paid for the van wraps.
