Four honored for work with kids in Mukilteo
At the Oct. 27 Mukilteo School Board meeting, the Snohomish County Children’s Commission honored four members of the school district community for making a difference among youth.
The recipients were Leslie Clauson, principal of Horizon Elementary; Oran Smith Osterman, who organized Packs For Kids, which provides food for needy families; Todd NcNeal, who organized Hand In Hand, which provides shelter for children; and Tyrone McMorris of Casino Road Kids Ministries, which provides academic help and addresses hunger issues on Casino Road.
Eagle Scout adds to Terrace park
Aaron Cox of Boy Scouts of America Troop 67 was presented the Veterans of Foreign Wars Eagle Scout Award at a National Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony held Oct. 25 in Lynnwood. Aaron’s Eagle Scout project involved installing a sign and bench at Matt Hirvela Bicentennial Park in Mountlake Terrace.
Everett mom a winner in cancer art contest
Susan Ringstad Emery, of Everett, had her painting “Outside Looking In” displayed in a special one-day show in Vanderbilt Hall at New York City’s Grand Central Terminal on Oct. 23 as part of Lilly Oncology On Canvas, a national contest open to adults affected by cancer.
Ringstad Emery won in the “best pastel by family member or caregiver” category. She will donate her $1,000 winnings to Seattle Children’s Hospital’s oncology department.
Her son, Brent, had pediatric cancer at age 3 and was successfully treated at Seattle Children’s. Brent, 9, is now a healthy third-grader with some scars and partial hearing loss.
