Everett police dog to get protective vestHobbs, the Edmonds Police Department police dog, will soon receive a ballistic vest, thanks to a nationwide Groupon event that raised more than $335,000 for a Massachusetts nonprofit. The police department plans to apply to the nonprofit for a vest for its other police dog, Kira.
The online fundraiser benefited Vested Interest in K9s, which helps outfit police dogs with bullet- and stab-protective vests.
Marysville honors volunteer of the monthMarysville Mayor Jon Nehring recently honored Mary Jane Miller as the city’s Volunteer of the Month for decades-long community service that has benefitted students, hospital patients and their loved ones, and others.
For 27 years, Miller has been a board member on the Career and Technical Education General Advisory Council for the Marysville School District, and has chaired the Marysville Alternative High School Site Council (now know as Mountain View High School).
Most recently, she challenged students to earn good grades in exchange for a bowling trip, prompting “a run on bowling shoe rentals.”
She also is active with the Marysville Soroptimists, the Providence General Children’s Association, and other groups.
