Mukilteo officers earn city’s award
Mukilteo Police Cpl. Joe Bredstrand and Officer Renata Mittlebach have been recognized for their work in saving a life.
The officers earned the city’s Life Saving Award for their exceptional service in preventing a suicide in late December, said police Chief Rex Caldwell.
The award is to be presented at an upcoming City Council meeting, he said.
Marysville student in page program
Elizabeth Boney, an eighth-grade student at Cedarcrest Middle School, recently participated in the Senate Page Program at the state Legislature.
She was one of 18 students between the ages of 14 and 16 who took part in the program during the first week of the 2012 legislative session. Pages deliver mail, run errands, present the flag and learn parliamentary procedures first hand.
Students also try their hand at drafting a bill and engage in a mock session. Boney wrote a bill to abolish the Death with Dignity Act.
“Often doctors tell a patient they only have six to eight months to live, and they often live longer than expected,” she said.
Boney was sponsored by Sen. Nick Harper from the 38th District. She is the daughter of Jeff Boney and Lacy Vangemert of Marysville.
