Club donates to local food bank
The Marysville Rock and Gem Club recently donated 152 pounds of food to the Marysville Community Food Bank.
At the club’s annual Christmas party, members were asked to bring a can of food. On Jan. 2, club president Bill Moser met with Dell Deierling, director of the Marysville Community Food Bank to hand him a check for $500.
Center partners with food bank
The employees of the Lynnwood Convention Center annually donate more than 1,000 pounds of food to the Lynnwood Food Bank.
The Lynnwood Food Bank has been providing help to low-income families for more than 32 years and operates with the help of about 120 volunteers. To learn more, go to www. lynnwoodfoodbank.org.
Lynnwood Convention Center employees also participated in the Eagle Outreach Angel Tree Program in December and bought gifts for many children.

Lynnwood residents honored for service
Presidential volunteer service awards given by Lynnwood Police Chief Steve Jensen in December to 60 honored volunteers.
The awards included 42 bronze, 16 silver and two gold. Those who received the bronze award volunteered between 100 to 249 hours. The silver award recipients volunteered between 250 to 499 hours. The two volunteers who earned the gold award, Cheryl Tenney and Elaine Solvang, each gave more than 500 hours of their time to the department.
Lynnwood police have two groups of volunteers — the Volunteers in Public Safety and the Citizens Patrol. In total more than 75 people volunteer for the department. These two groups served more than 21,000 volunteer hours in 2010.
The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation was established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our communities and encourage more people to serve. The Council created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

Dan Harris earns Eagle Scout rank
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1040 of Lynnwood, presented a VFW Eagle Scout certificate Dec. 30 to Dan Harris of Troop 304 at his Eagle Court of Honor.
Dan volunteers to teach disabled children how to ski at Stevens Pass during the winter with a group called Outdoors for All. He also volunteers for Washington Special Olympics in the summer. Dan designed and led the construction of a 24-foot miniature golf course hole that the special Olympics athletes can use in between their competitive events, in order to relax and have fun.
Dan lives in Edmonds and is a senior at Archbishop Murphy High School. He hopes to study chemistry in college and participate in undergraduate research.
