Books collected for kids in Edmonds
People in Edmonds donated hundreds of books to Page Ahead, an organization that provides books to at-risk children throughout Washington.
Jeweler Brian Comstock, along with the Seattle Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi, held a monthlong book drive to get books for the children who don’t have any in their homes.
To help with the book drive, the Edmonds Bookshop discounted all books purchased for the cause.
Camp Fire goes trick-or-treating
The Tan da Popoki Camp Fire USA club went trick-or-treating for canned food and collected 195 pounds of food for Snohomish Food Bank.
After delivering groceries to the food bank, the girls helped weigh the food and got a tour of the building.
The following club members participated in the project: Kaylan Politte-Drake, Chaun Azure, Natalie Giles, Rebecca Azure, Cheyenne Griswold, Ella Strange, Renee Monroe, Talia Jones and Chloe Reed.
Grant to provide beds for children
The North Sound Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has received $4,000 from The EverTrust Foundation.
The grant will pay for 26 beds for children who are otherwise sleeping on the floor.
Pirates help neighbors in need
The Arlington Kiwanis Club, with help from Pirates of Treasure Island and Arlington High School students, collected donations at Arlington’s Hometown Halloween celebration.
They collected 1,600 pounds of food and $850 for Arlington Food Bank and 400 pairs of new shoes for Kids Kloset.
Marysville steps up for food drive
The Marysville All City Food Drive, held at local grocery stores Nov. 4, brought in $2,100 and 5004 pounds of food.
The annual event supports Marysville Community Food Bank.
Nearly 80 volunteers came together the day of the event to help with the food drive.
Rotary awards scholarships
The Rotary Club of South Everett-Mukilteo recently awarded a total of $5,500 to three charities.
The money went to Christmas House, Well Done Organization and Project Peanut Butter.
The all-volunteer Christmas House received $1,000 to support its mission of providing toys and clothing for children from low-income families throughout Snohomish County.
The Lake Stevens-based Well Done Organization is focused on improving living conditions in Liberia, West Africa.
The nonprofit received $2,500 to help build a bathroom at an orphanage and pay for training to promote hygiene. The Rotary club helped fund a similar project at an elementary school in Liberia earlier this year.
Project Peanut Butter, based in Missouri, received $2,000 to help pay for treatment of malnourished children in Africa.
The organization provides ready-to-use, nutritious food similar to peanut butter. The product is widely used by international relief organizations.
Honors
Boy Scouts retire flags
Boy Scout Troop 46 of Camano Island performed a flag retirement ceremony last week.
Troop members played patriotic music and recited poems for each flag they retired.
The following Boy Scouts attended the ceremony: Nick Uhrich, Curtis Maile, Perigrine and Devin Spane, Bryce Berryman, JP Recht, Dietrich Menzer, Iain Rosenstiel and Alex O’Dell.
