Food collected by Camp Fire

Camp Fire USA Snohomish County Council collected 2,000 pounds of food and $600 on Oct. 16 as part of a countywide food drive.

Each club collected 100 food items in honor of Camp Fire USA’s 100th birthday. Food was donated to food banks in Everett, Stanwood, Snohomish and Lake Stevens.

Generous host for fundraiser

Anthony’s Woodfire Grill in Everett recently hosted the 20th annual Brunch by the Bay fundraiser.

The event, which supports the Carousel Program at Providence Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County, raised more than $85,000. The money will go to pediatric home, hospice, palliative health care and bereavement support for children in Snohomish County.

The restaurant’s general manager, Rebecca Monaghan, received a carousel music box commemorating the 20-year partnership with Providence Hospice.

HONORS

Girl Scouts recognized

Three Girl Scouts from Service Unit 223, Snohomish, received plaques for each selling more than 1,000 boxes of cookies last year.

The annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale is a major fundraiser for activities throughout the year.

Medics graduate from fire academy

Two Marysville Fire District recruits graduated from the Washington State Fire Academy last week.

Michael Aquino and Cody Brooke successfully completed the rigorous and demanding 12-week program at the North Bend Academy.

Brooke, who was hired in June as a paramedic, was named the class valedictorian and received an award for his leadership and dedication.

Aquino has been a part-time firefighter with Marysville since September 2008 and was hired full time last month. He was honored for his firefighting skills.

“We are proud of both Aquino and Brooke for their accomplishments at the academy and look forward to their many years of service with Marysville Fire District,” Chief Greg Corn said.

Citizen Service award for Niva

Connie Niva received this year’s Award in Recognition of Citizen Service from the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County.

Niva served on the Everett City Council, the Port of Everett and the State Transportation Commission.

The organization is planning to recognize Niva at the gala Centennial Celebration of Women’s Right to Vote on Nov. 20 at the Everett Golf and Country Club.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots political organization that encourages citizen participation in government.

Rotary classic car raffle finds winner

The Rotary Club of Everett Port Gardner presented the winner of the 11th annual Classic Car Raffle with the keys to a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air.

Leigh Boone had to take a trip from Anchorage, Alaska, to receive her prize. She purchased raffle tickets the Whidbey Island Car Show this summer while visiting family on Whidbey Island. Boone said her grandsons talked her into buying the tickets.

Proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets benefit local and international projects and programs. Thousands of people generously supported the raffle this year.
