Edmonds: Three city streets being repaved
The city of Edmonds will repave three streets, starting in September and ending in November, forcing closure of Fifth Avenue and Dayton Street for a week.
Crews will repave Dayton Street from Fifth Avenue S. to Sunset Avenue; 212th Street SW from 72nd Avenue W. to 84th Avenue W.; and 220th Street SW from Highway 99 to 76th Avenue W. Other improvements include reconstruction of curb ramps to make them wheelchair accessible, replacement of decorative crosswalks at Fifth Avenue and Dayton Street, and new pavement striping.
The overlay project is funded by a $1 million federal stimulus grant.

Donate blood Tuesday at Petosa’s Family Grocer
A blood drive will be held 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Petosa’s Family Grocer, 550 Fifth Ave. S.
All blood types are needed, and donors age 18 and older are encouraged to donate. Teens ages 16 and 17 can donate with parents’ permission.
Everett: Municipal Court closed Thursday
The Everett Municipal Court and Probation Department is scheduled to be closed Thursday for staff training. The court hears misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, infractions and parking cases. The court will reopen to the public Friday morning.

Ideas sought on downtown historic preservation
The city and the Everett Historical Commission are drafting a Downtown Historic Preservation Plan to address preservation issues downtown. They want Everett resident’s ideas. They’ve set up an online survey at www.everettwa.org/default.aspx?ID=1643. City staff also will mail a copy of the survey on request.

Community Transit’s driver of the quarter
Community Transit has selected Geri Buttke of Everett as its coach operator for the second quarter of 2009.
Buttke has been a Community Transit driver about two years. She has received all four possible reliability awards in the past year for no unexcused absences, according to the agency.
Buttke has had no preventable accidents and regularly volunteers for overtime, according to Community Transit. She also received a commendation for driving through last December’s period of snow and ice.
The coach operator of the quarter is selected based on driving skills, no preventable accidents in the past 12 months, customer service, attendance and other criteria. Community Transit selects its coach operator of the year from among the quarterly winners.
Mountlake Terrace: Pavilion earns more distinction
Mountlake Terrace’s Recreation Pavilion has received the 2009 Parents’ Pick Award for best swim class in the Seattle area, based on a vote on Nickleodeon’s Web site May 5 through July 15.
Earlier this year, the facility received the Best Pool for Toddlers award from Seattle Magazine.
Snohomish: Looking for board applicants
Snohomish is calling for applicants to fill a vacancy on the city’s Design Review Board.
The board considers and reviews rehabilitation and restoration projects to encourage better design and site planning. The term runs for four years. Applications, available at the city’s Web site, are due by 4 p.m. Sept. 17 to City Hall, 116 Union Ave., Snohomish.
