100th Birthday
Carlson
Ione Carlson, of Marysville, plans to celebrate her 100th birthday on Wednesday.
She attributes her long life to a positive outlook and an active role in her church, community and family life.
Carlson looks fondly upon her family trips to Monte Cristo and Hat Island as the highlight of her childhood.
Carlson was the valedictorian of Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s class of 1929. She also attended Roger’s Business School in Everett before marrying and moving to Marysville in the 1930s. She is the widow of Chester Carlson.
She has lived the past 77 years in the same Marysville home where she raised six children. She has 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
“She has always been their biggest fan and has encouraged them in all sports and academic activities,” said Peggy Cruz, Carlson’s daughter.
After retiring from the Marysville School District’s service department, Carlson began volunteering at Cascade Elementary School.
She received the Golden Acorn Award for her dedication and service to youth and has been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Altar Society, a lifetime member of the PTA, the Marine Corps Auxiliary, the Marysville Historical Society and Maryfest.
Friends and family are invited to Carlson’s 100th birthday party at 1 p.m. on Feb. 19 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4200 85th St. NE, Marysville. No gifts at family’s request.
