Help: Work party in Snohomish

People are invited Saturday to help YouthBuild Snohomish County clean up the banks of Skykomish River.

Volunteers will meet, rain or shine, at 10 a.m. at the Lewis Street Park Picnic Shelter, 561 S. Lewis St. Monroe.

Cleanup will include the Lewis Street Park, the adjacent Al Borlin Park and the banks of the Skykomish River.

Apply: Grants available to nonprofits

Nonprofit organizations and government agencies in Snohomish County are invited to apply for a federal grant program that provides emergency food, shelter and mortgage help.

The National Emergency Food and Shelter Program awards these grants yearly.

Applications should be submitted to EFSP Local Board Chair, Mary Anne Dillon at 3301 Broadway, Everett, WA 98201.

To be eligible, local organizations must be providing emergency food, shelter, rent or mortgage help. Other requirements apply.

Ride: Therapeutic riding lessons offered

The Whidbey Island-based nonprofit HOPE Therapeutic Riding Center is accepting students for the winter quarter.

The center provides horseback riding lessons for children and adults with disabilities and other challenges.

Specially trained instructors design lessons to meet the needs of individual students.

The winter quarter runs for eight weeks starting Jan. 9. Training takes place in Coupeville.

Registration deadline is Nov. 28 for current students and Dec. 5 for new students. The cost is $240, plus an extra $30 charge for new students.

Some scholarships are available to help cover fees for eligible students.

Give: Toys for Tots donations accepted

Marion Barbershop is accepting donations for Toys for Tots.

Drop off toys through Dec. 17 at the barbeshop, 4610 Evergreen Way, Everett. To get involved, contact Sheila Johnson, 425-350-1854.

Dine: Thanksgiving dinner for seniors

A few spots are still open for the annual seniors’ turkey dinner hosted by the Everett Firefighters Association.

Three dinners are planned Sunday at noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Carl Gipson Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave., Everett.

There will be turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie.

The dinner is free, but attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable donation for the food bank.

Sing: Youth gospel choir forming

A community gospel choir for young people is forming in north Snohomish County.

Lyle Forde, retired Arlington High School Jazzmine and choral director, plans to lead the choir in Southern gospel-style music, which includes elements of jazz and blues.

Young people from eighth-grade through college age are invited to participate. Weekly rehearsals are at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Elim Lutheran Church, 11504 26th St., Lake Stevens.
