Listen: Edmonds teens dispel labels in book
Twenty-one students from Scriber Lake High School will hold a book release party at 5 p.m. Thursday for their new book, “You’ve Got It All Wrong,” a collection of true stories about the damage caused by labels put on teens.
The book launch event will be held at Cafe Louvre, 210 Fifth Ave. S. in downtown Edmonds. Several students also will read from their stories in an hour-long performance that starts at 6:30 p.m.
“We hope our stories will encourage other teens to grow from their experiences, and help them know that there are people out there who want to listen to them with respect,” said Kelly Peterson, who wrote about her struggle with addiction and peer pressure.
The book follows up on last year’s story collection “We Are Absolutely Not Okay.”
Congratulate: 1,000 celebrate GEDs at EvCC
An award-winning Everett Community College program that helps parents on welfare earn a GED or high school diploma is celebrating its more than 1,000 graduates with a special event, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at EvCC’s Henry M. Jackson Conference Center on the campus at 2000 Tower St.
The public as well as EAGER graduates, current students and their families are encouraged to attend.
The Entry, Assessment, GED, Employment and Retention program was created in 2004 to move parents from welfare into jobs that support their families. The program has awarded 1,014 GEDs to date.

Peruse: Genealogists book sale, open house
The Sno-Isle Genealogical Society plans an open house and used book sale, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 at its Research Library at Heritage Park, 19827 Poplar Way, Lynnwood.
Explore SIGS’s large collection of book and research material for genealogical research. In addition, several special collections will be on display, including the Historic Snohomish County overlay mapping program software.
Two hundred surplus used books will be sold. Various pedigree charts and family tree charts will be available.

Donate: Kids clothes for Stuff the Truck event
Swing by the Lynnwood Recreation Center 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to drop off new or gently used children’s and teen’s clothing donations.
The Stuff the Truck event caps a monthlong effort by the city of Lynnwood to help the local nonprofit Clothes For Kids. Clothing in sizes 4T to Teen XL are needed, especially winter coats, summer shorts, shirts, jackets and jeans. All underwear and socks distributed by Clothes For Kids are new. Tax receipts will be available during the drop-off event.

Serve: Sister City group has opening on board
The city of Edmonds Sister City Commission seeks a volunteer to fill a recent opening. The 12 members of the commission are non-paid volunteers appointed to three-year terms. The open position runs until Dec. 31, 2014, and is extendable.
Sister City Commissioners attend one monthly meeting at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month, participate in year-round committee work, and participate in activities involving visitors from Hekinan, Japan, throughout the year.
Applicants are interviewed. Members are appointed by the mayor with confirmation of the City Council.

Sing: Christian choir meets through summer
The Lutheran Choral Association of Snohomish County is a new ecumenical summer choir and invites singers from all denominations to join. Learn: Help keep Port Susan healthy
Warm Beach residents are invited to a free open house to learn more about the health, history, culture and marine life of Port Susan, 5:30-8 p.m. June 13 at the Warm Beach Senior Community, 20420 Marine Drive, Stanwood.
Speakers at the Snohomish Conservation District event include local biologist and marine specialist Franchesca Perez and educator and author Penny Buse.

Lynnwood will hold a Father’s Day Brunch and Civil War Presentation, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 14 at the Lynnwood Senior Center, 19000 44th Ave. W.
Guest presenter Frank Star will showcase his large collection of Civil War items, including artifacts dug up from old battle fields. All are welcome to this special celebration for dads.
