Search: Scavenger hunt in Mukilteo

Children and children at heart are invited to a scavenger hunt from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Japanese Gulch in Mukilteo, 1201 Mukilteo Lane.

Participants will get a list of objects. They will need to take pictures of objects they find.

The free scavenger hunt focuses on nature and will include plants and animals.

Nominate: KSER community awards

Everett public radio station KSER is accepting nominations for its Voice of the Community Awards.

The annual awards recognize people who speak up about cultural concerns and improve their communities.

The 2010 KSER Voice of the Community Awards winners were Kim Buike for his work with the United Way of Snohomish County, the Tulalip Tribes Charitable Funds for their community support, and Frank DeMiero for his accomplishments in music education.

The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. Sept. 12.

Party: Senior center barbecue Saturday

The annual Backyard BBQ Bash at East County Senior Center is planned from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the senior center, 276 Sky River Parkway, Monroe.

Grilled steak or lime shrimp stir fry will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Guests can dance to music by the 18-person Moonlight Swing Orchestra from 6 to 9 p.m.

The cost is $7 pre-pay, $9 at the door.

Reservations are highly encouraged for this well- attended tradition.

Attend: Events for children at library

The following kids’ events are planned at the Mukilteo Library this month:

•Magic tree house adventures, 2 p.m. Wednesday for ages 5 to 11. Enter into a tree house full of stories, crafts and magic. Based on Mary Pope Osborne’s books.

Get ready for kindergarten, 10:30 a.m. Aug. 18. Stories and activities for children entering kindergarten, to generate excitement about this important milestone.

Summer reading finisher’s party, 2 p.m. Aug. 20 for children who read 10 books or more this summer and their families. There will be cake, ice cream and a visit from Deano the Clown.

Train: CERT class offered in Everett

The Everett Fire Department is offering a Community Emergency Response Team class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 14.

The eight-week course teachers planning, recovery and survival skills that can help communities in case of disaster.

Applications are available at the Everett Office of Emergency Management, 2801 Oakes Ave.

The deadline for applications is Sept. 1.
