Participate: Bowl for education

Team spots are filling up for the annual Stanwood Chamber of Commerce Bowling for Education event scheduled for 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Twin City Lanes in Stanwood.

Cost is $250 per team, which includes lunch and registration.

The contest is limited to eight teams of four bowlers each.

Proceeds benefit the chamber’s scholarship program.

Registration deadline is Feb. 3

Chamber members also are also collecting prizes and need donations of gift baskets, food coupons and gift certificates.

Attend: Fundraiser to help cancer victim

Jen Bell-Burgess, of Stanwood, is fighting a rare form of cervical cancer.

Friends and family have organized a benefit concert set for 7 p.m. Friday at Amigo Mexican Restaurant, 6996 265th St. NW, in Stanwood.

The band Brigade from Everett plans to perform Led Zeppelin tunes. A donation jar will be set up at the restaurant and raffle tickets will be sold.

Eat: Breakfast benefits grange

The South Camano Grange offers its monthly pancake breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the grange. The menu includes ham and eggs, sausage, French toast, pancakes, coffee and orange juice.

Price is $7 or $3 for kids younger than 10.

Sign up: Marysville-Tulalip Relay for Life

The Marysville-Tulalip Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society begins its season with an event set for 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, 8606 36th Ave. NE, Marysville.

The recent snowstorm moved the event ahead.

Speaker presentations begin at 6:30 p.m.

A kick-off registration special allows single participants to join for $5.

Light refreshments and cupcakes will be served.

Write: Volunteer pen pals still needed

The Everett Elks are looking for five more adult volunteers to write to Marysville middle school students whose primary language is not English.

Students and adults will each read selected books and write back and forth about them. A kick-off meeting for volunteers is scheduled at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

State Patrol background checks are mandatory for all volunteers.

Apply: Photography scholarships offered

The Professional Photographers of Washington is accepting applications for the group’s 2012 Student Photographer of the Year Award, a $2,000 scholarship grant for study in the photographic arts.

The award is available to all high school students graduating this year.

Professional photographers select the finalists based on photographic and scholastic studies and the desire to continue study in photography.

The application postmark deadline is March 23 and the winner will be announced in June.

Volunteer: Hospice program needs help

Hospice and Home Care of Snohomish County is looking for volunteers to help visit patients, deliver supplies, work in the office and help with events.

Information sessions are scheduled the third Wednesday of each month at either 2 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m.
