Red Cross is looking for local heroes

The Island County Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for people who have demonstrated courage, kindness or unselfish character. The Red Cross and event sponsor Whidbey Island Bank plan to honor local heroes at the chapter’s 10th annual Heroes Breakfast Award Ceremony set for March 4.

Get nomination forms at any Whidbey Island Bank or at www.islandredcross.org. Return the form by Jan. 15 to HEROES, American Red Cross, P.O. Box 1588, Oak Harbor, WA 98277.

The Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour is seeking visitor services volunteers who want to share their knowledge of area attractions or a passion for aviation with visitors.

Volunteers must have customer service and basic computer skills. Training is provided. Weekend and afternoon shifts are available.

Stanwood-Camano group offers grants

The Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation provides community grants to groups that benefit the residents of Stanwood and Camano Island.

Grants are available now and applications are due to the foundation by Oct. 31.

Helping Hands needs volunteer drivers

Volunteer drivers and driver helpers are needed to help make pickups and deliveries for the Multiple Sclerosis Helping Hands Donor Closet.

Volunteer drivers must be 18 or older, have a valid license and a good driving record. Work is done when the volunteer driver is available.

The MSHH Donor Closet has a van, and the driver and vehicle are fully insured. To volunteer, call 425-712-1804.

No shushing at Sno-Isle library fundraiser

The Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation’s fifth annual fundraising event is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Snoho­mish Library, 311 Maple Ave.

The evening will include music in the stacks and quirky and comical library stories. Guests will learn about the “necessary extras” provided by the foundation in 21 libraries throughout Snoho­mish and Island Counties.

Guests will be asked to make a donation or pledge to the foundation. Attendance is limited. No shushing allowed. Dress is evening casual.

Mountlake Terrace High School music students plan to perform a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the school’s theater, 21801 44th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.

The concert is to raise funds for the Central Asia Institute, which promotes and supports community-based education and literacy programs.

Featured on the program are the award-winning jazz ensemble, the Dynamics vocal jazz ensemble, orchestra and band.
