Give: Donate winter clothes for kids

Gloves, hats and scarves for local children are being collected in Snohomish.

The clothes will go to children in the Snohomish School District through the Holiday Giving Tree Program and the Snohomish Boys and Girls Club.

Donations can be dropped off between Nov. 4 and Dec. 9 at the Snohomish Boys &Girls Club, 405 Second St., Snohomish Community Food Bank, 1330 Ferguson Park Road, and Columbia Bank, 167 Lincoln Ave. Cash donations also are being accepted at the Boys &Girls Club.

Presents collected through the program are distributed to parents on Dec. 16 and 17 at a local fire station.

Volunteer: Tax preparers needed

United Way of Snohomish County is looking for more than 100 volunteers for its annual free tax preparation program.

The program is designed to help people prepare tax returns and take advantage of tax credits they are eligible for, said United Way spokesman Neil Parekh.

All volunteers will receive free training and be certified by the IRS. Multilingual volunteers are greatly needed.

The program runs Jan. 24 to April 14. The program sites will be located in Everett, Lynnwood, Marysville and Monroe.

Attend: Dinner and dance for seniors

It’s time for the annual autumn dinner and dance at East County Senior Center.

The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 5 at the center, 276 Sky River Parkway, Monroe.

Advance tickets are $7, $9 at the door. A spaghetti dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The Moonlight Swing Orchestra is scheduled to play from 6 to 8 p.m.

Eat: Dinner for Everett charities

The community is invited for a meal of chili served by the Everett chapter of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

The fundraiser is from noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 13 at St. Mary Magdalen parish hall, 8717 Seventh Ave. SE, Everett.

Tickets are $5 per person, $20 per family.

An iPod will be raffled off, and a silent auction is planned. Entertainment also will be provided.

Learn: Club hosts talk on ID theft

Identity theft will be the focus of an upcoming talk sponsored by the Edmonds Exchange Club.

The presentation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Swedish Edmonds hospital, in the second-floor auditorium off the cafeteria. The hospital is at 21601 76th Ave. W., Edmonds.

Shane Hawley, fraud detective from the Edmonds Police Department, will cover phone scams, Craigs-list fraud and credit card theft. The public is invited.

Walk: Pancreatic cancer fundraiser

Purple Stride Puget Sound, a family-friendly fundraising walk, is planned Sunday in Seattle.

The 5K and 1K run and walk raises money for Pancreatic Cancer Network.

The event, which is part of a nationwide campaign, is at 9 a.m. at Warren G. Magnuson Park, 7110 NE 62nd St., Seattle. Kids activities’ and music are planned.
