Keep a sharp mind at senior center seminar
The South County Senior Center presents BrainFit for Life, a free seminar with Simon Evans, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today in the South County Senior Center ballroom, 220 Railroad Ave., Edmonds.
Evans, an assistant research professor at the University of Michigan, plans to speak about strategies to keep the mind keen, including information about nutrients, mental activities and rest and relaxation.

Computer recycling set for Saturday
Cullen Walsh, a Boy Scout with Troop 114, plans a computer-recycling drive from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Kamiak High School, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo, south parking lot. Walsh, who is working on his Eagle Scout project, organized the event in partnership with the nonprofit InterConnection.
The drop-off fees are: $10 for older monitors and $5 for printers and scanners under 15 pounds; no charge for computers. Televisions and other electronics cannot be accepted.

American Indian bead workshop this week
The Mukilteo Art Academy presents Beading with Bessie, a workshop in American Indian bead work with Bessie Demmert from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday at the Art Annex at the Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln Ave., Mukilteo. Demmert, a Tlingit and Haida Indian, is a member of the Double Eagle Clan from Craig, Alaska. She lives on the Tulalip Reservation.
Her bead work is found at regional powwows and other gatherings. The workshop is limited to eight students ages 10 to adult. The cost is $75 and includes beads and materials.

United Way holds AquaSox food drive
The United Way of Snohomish County continues its food drive at the Everett AquaSox games through Friday. Donations of canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter and food staple items are needed. A food collection barrel is at the ballpark’s main entrance, which is at the south end of the ballpark.
Organizers plan to donate the food to the Volunteers of America Western Washington food bank.

Red Cross offers free CPR training
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross plans CPR Saturday, a free cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, from 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.
Training sessions are 8, 9 and 10 a.m. The minimum age to participate is 11. Those who complete the three-hour course and pass the written exam will receive a Red Cross CPR certification card.

Senior center needs thrift store volunteers
The South County Senior Center needs volunteer clerks and cashiers at its thrift store. Retail experience is helpful but not required, as training will be provided.
The center is also looking for paid and volunteer instructors for a variety of other classes at the center.
South County Senior Center is at 220 Railroad Ave., Edmonds.
