New Girl Scout troops looking for volunteers

New Girl Scout troops for girls ages 5-17 are forming in Snohomish County.

Parents and other volunteers are needed. No experience is necessary and all training is provided. For information about Girl Scouts, call the Totem Council service center at 877-822-9435.

Camp Fire USA holds event for new clubs

New Camp Fire USA clubs are forming in Snohomish County.

Kick-off events are scheduled in Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Monroe, Lakewood, Edmonds, Stanwood and Arlington. To volunteer, call 425-258-5437.

Project Linus needs volunteer seamstresses

The Snohomish County Chapter of Project Linus hosts several work parties and two Make-a-Blanket days annually in order to provide gifts of new, handmade, washable blankets and afghans to seriously ill or traumatized children in Snohomish County.

Volunteers who can help sew, iron and tie quilts are asked to attend a work party set for noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 30 at Pacific Fabrics, 10203 Evergreen Way, Everett. The goal is to make 75 blankets. Project Linus volunteers also will be on hand to accept donations.

Lynnwood to raise money for Terlicker scholarship

The city of Lynnwood will host a fundraiser and social celebration beginning at 4 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Lynnwood recreation center to support the Randy Terlicker Memorial Aquatics and Life Safety Scholarship.

This event is dedicated to the memory Terlicker, a former city employee. Admission is $5. To contribute to the scholarship fund, make checks payable to Randy Terlicker Memorial Scholarship Fund and mail to Lynnwood Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, Attn: Sarah Olson, P.O. Box 5008, Lynn­wood, WA 98046-5008.

Marysville needs volunteer coaches

The Marysville Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteer coaches for its youth basketball league.

Coaches are sought for kids in first through eighth grades. The program focuses on fundamentals, teamwork and good sportsmanship in a recreation league environment.

Practices begin the first week of December and league play concludes in March.

Volunteer packets are available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Marysville Parks and Recreation office, Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road.

Kiwanis auction to benefit youth programs

The annual Silver Lake Kiwanis auction is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Everett Symphony rehearsal hall, 2710 Colby Ave., Everett. Tickets are $60 each at the door, and the auction items include accommodations on Kauai, Hawaii.

The club is raising money for programs that benefit children. Last year the group gave dictionaries to seven classes of third graders in the Everett School District, provided assistance to eight college freshmen and donated to several local charities including Camp Casey and Volunteers of America.

EvCC seeks host families for German students

Everett Community College is looking for host families for five German exchange students from Oct. 15 through Nov. 2.

The students are visiting Everett Community College through an exchange program that involves participation in college classes, as well as exploring the region. All students are age 17 or older.
