North County Fire and Emergency Medical Services needs volunteer firefighters to help serve in all types of emergency situations, such as fires, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, aircraft crashes and medical calls.
Applications may be obtained at the fire district’s administration office, 19727 Marine Drive in the Warm Beach area. For information, call 425-754-4342. Applications must be received by Sept. 15.
A benefit for the Meggi Ward medical and college fund as well as the Karlie Kaska Memorial Scholarship Fund is set for 5 p.m. Saturday in the theater at Lakewood High School.
Musical acts scheduled to play for the benefit event include Patient Patient, Euphoric, Allison Preisinger, Sean McGrath and Miles McGillivray. Admission is by donation.
A car accident in May in the Arlington area involved three students from Lakewood High School. Kaska did not survive the crash, Ward remains in the hospital. and Brooke Loisel is recovering from the accident. Benefit organizers said they hope for a big turnout from the Lakewood community.
Donations of cell phones and personal digital assistants are being sought by students at Edmonds Community College.

Snohomish County residents have a chance to learn about local beaches and then lend a hand to keep them clean.
Beach Expo and volunteer cleanup events have been set up this summer at beaches throughout Snohomish County.
The next Beach Expo, cleanup and ivy pull is from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Kayak Point Park, Tulalip. The free event is open to the public, and participation in cleanup activities is not required.
However, volunteers for the cleanup portion of the event are asked to call 425-252-6686.
The Stillaguamish-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force, the Snohomish County Marine Resources Council and Washington State University Beach Watchers are sponsors of the event.
The final Beach Expo is set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 on a riverbank of the North Fork Stillaguamish River near Arlington.
