Nine area restaurants are participating in a fundraising event today for Cocoon House, Senior Services of Snohomish County and the Snohomish County Center for Battered Women.

“Platters that Matter” benefits seniors, women, youth and families who receive food, shelter and safety. The restaurants involved will donate a portion of the proceeds from dinners sold tonight to the local nonprofit agencies.

Participating are Amici Bistro, Mukilteo; Bistro San Martin, Arlington; Buck’s American Cafe, Everett; Everett Sub Shop; The Flying Pig, Everett; La Hacienda, Lake Stevens; The Majestic Cafe, Everett; Papi’s, Everett; and Turners, Everett.

Tickets for the Oct. 21 regional wine festival “Gusto!” go on sale Friday. The event features more than 60 Northwest wineries and 15 local restaurants. Admission includes unlimited tasting and a commemorative wine glass and plate.

“Gusto!” runs 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Future of Flight Aviation Center, 8415 Paine Field Blvd., Mukilteo. Tickets are $40 per person and will be on sale starting Friday.

The evening includes live music and a student art show. Guests also can participate in the Everett Community College Foundation silent auction, which features many art and wine items.

Proceeds from “Gusto!” benefit the EvCC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides financial support for student scholarships and Everett Community College programs. This is the wine festival’s 11th year.
