It’s still free.
That’s right, Sounder service between Everett and Seattle will cost riders nothing for one more month.
Sound Transit is extending its offer to ride free because it hopes to lure commuters who have been off work because of the holidays.
"By extending our free introductory service period beyond the holidays, we’ll increase the number of community members who trade congested roads for one of the most scenic commutes in the nation," said Marty Minkoff, commuter rail director for Sounder.
Sounder service started Dec. 21 with one train south in the morning and one train back to Snohomish County in the evening.
Except for today and Christmas Day, the train will run every weekday. It leaves Everett Station at 6:55 a.m., stops at Edmonds Station at 7:21 a.m., and arrives at King Street Station in Seattle at 7:54 a.m. On the way back, it leaves Seattle at 5:15 p.m., stops in Edmonds at 5:42 p.m., and arrives in Everett at 6:14 p.m. Eventually, a stop in Mukilteo will be added.
Fares will kick in on Feb. 2. A one-way trip will cost $3 for adults, $2.25 for youths 6 through 18, and $1.50 for seniors 65 and older and disabled people.
So far, about 350 people have been riding the train each day, with slightly more than half traveling south and the rest traveling north.
