ARLINGTON — Marley’s Ghost — not Jacob or even Bob, but the well-known regional band — plans to perform a matinee Sunday as part of a fundraiser for Arlington Arts Council’s banner project.
Ed Littlefield, an Arlington musician and owner of the Sage Arts recording studio, is a member of the band, which also includes Jon Wilcox, Dan Wheetman, Mike Phelan and Jerry Fletcher.
The evening’s opening act is the Jazzmine Quartet, four young men from Arlington High School who plan to sing a capella. Quartet members Justin Goheen, Brennan Kmet, Dylan McFadden and Jordan Tanquay study with Lyle Forde at the high school.
Marley’s Ghost plays old-time country and rock-n-roll and has appeared at many festivals throughout the Northwest, said Sarah Arney, president of the Arlington Arts Council.
“We’re excited to present Marley’s Ghost, which brings many years of musical experiences and talent, excellent voices and harmonies and a passion for old-time American roots music to Arlington,” Arney said.
The band also plays country music from many countries, Arney said, including Celtic, Cajun and reggae on instruments that include mandolin, fiddle, banjo, guitar and pipes.
Their latest CD, “Ghost Town,” is traditional country, but the arts council requested the group play some good ol’ rock-n-roll, too, Arney said.
The band has been together 22 years, recorded nine albums and performed across the country.
The concert will raise money for public art in Arlington, with a portion of the proceeds to be used to reproduce original art banners painted for hanging on lightposts around town.
