EDMONDS — A contest will help determine the name for Edmonds’ newest park at the Old Milltown site at Fifth Avenue S. and Maple Street.
All suggested names will go to the Planning Board for consideration and a public hearing. The board will then make a recommendation to the City Council, which will have the final say.
Those submitting entries should note that the Hazel Miller Foundation has promised the city an $88,000 grant to further develop the park, which represents more than half of the project’s cost, said Carrie Hite, parks and recreation director. That gift is contingent upon the courtyard park being named after Hazel Miller, however.
Entry forms with naming guidelines are available at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St.; Edmonds City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N; at the park site; or online at www.ci.edmonds.wa.us. Entrants may also submit their idea to parknamingcontest@ci.edmonds.wa.us.
Entry deadline is 4 p.m. Nov. 21.
