A convicted rapist pleaded innocent Friday to a new second-degree rape charge involving a 14-year-old relative who said she was sexually assaulted and choked while babysitting at his home.
Anthony Darnell Snow, 32, entered the plea during a brief hearing in Snohomish County Superior Court. His bail was maintained at $500,000.
The hearing came just hours after Snow called The Herald from the county jail in Everett and said that he was planning to plead guilty. Snow also said he wanted to pass along assurances to the community that he did not harm children living in the Silver Firs neighborhood, where he had lived after being released from prison in March.
"I know the neighborhood is kind of ticked off at me right now, and my in-laws are as well. But the babysitter’s parents did know I am a registered sex offender," he said.
"I failed them, and I failed the neighborhood," Snow added.
Prosecutors on Thursday alleged Snow forced himself on the girl early Monday, choking her and threatening to kill her if she refused sex.
If convicted as charged, Snow would face a mandatory punishment of life in prison without release under the state’s persistent offender laws. He has prior convictions for rape, robbery and auto theft.
