MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Two Snohomish County teenagers were arrested Thursday afternoon in Mountlake Terrace with more than $5,500 worth of heroin after police pulled a car over for a traffic stop.
An officer noticed a car driven erratically and with a broken taillight just after noon in the 22000 block of 56th Avenue W., according to an affidavit filed Friday in Everett District Court.
Two boys, 17 and 18, were in the car and were uncooperative with police, Mountlake Terrace police Sgt. Doug Hansen said. They said they had no driver’s license or identification.
Officers asked the pair to get out of the car and noticed what they believed were flakes of marijuana in the car and a wad of cash totalling $200, the court document said.
A police dog trained to sniff out drugs was called and indicated there was something in the glove box. That’s where police found 46 grams of heroin in 44 little packages.
Lt. Mark Richardson with the Snohomish Region Drug Task Force said that’s worth as much as $5,500 dollars.
Hansen said it is unusual for police to find teenagers with such a large quantity of heroin.
The 18-year-old was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of drug charges. The younger man was taken to the Denney Juvenile Justice Center.
