Batten down the branches. Forecasters are predicting that Snohomish County could be hit by winds of up to 30 miles per hour on Sunday.
Winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour are expected to blow across the county on Sunday morning and by the afternoon increase to 15 to 30 miles per hour, said National Weather Service forecaster Johnny Burg.
But Sunday’s predicted windstorm is not expected to rival the area’s Oct. 28 windstorm, which knocked down trees and cut power to thousands of residents.
"You might see some small branches come down this weekend, but you’re not going to see the same thing you saw in October," Burg said.
If the wind does kick up, Island County may get the brunt of it. Look for winds from 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts of up to 50 miles hour on Whidbey Island, Burg said.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the mid-40s.
Anyone who plans to drive in areas where there are strong winds should be "very careful," Burg said.
During the October windstorm, 60-mile-per-hour gusts drove 8-foot-high waves in Puget Sound into Ivar’s Seafood Restaurant in Mukilteo.
Bob Donegan, president of Ivar’s, said he planned to check with contractors to make sure everything is fastened down in case Sunday’s predicted storm takes another crack at the already battered restaurant, which remains closed for repairs.
