PORT ANGELES — A woman accused of taking more than $617,000 when she worked as a cashier for the Clallam County Treasurer’s Office admitted in court Tuesday in Port Angeles that she took less than $900.
The hearing was held Tuesday to determine whether a partial confession that Catherine Betts made to co-workers in 2009 could be used as evidence. The superior court judge ruled that it could because the statement was made without coercion.
The Peninsula Daily News reported Betts is charged with theft, money laundering and filing false tax returns with the state Department of Revenue.
