County Council confirms Marine’s Sound Transit board appointment

EVERETT — The Snohomish County Council on Monday confirmed the appointment of Mukilteo Mayor Joe Marine to the Sound Transit’s 18-member board of directors.

The Council voted 3-2 on in favor of naming Marine to the board, which oversees mass transit systems in Snohomish, King and Pierce counties.

Marine replaces Edmonds City Councilwoman Deanna Dawson, who recently left the board. Chairman Mike Cooper and Councilman Dave Somers voted against the nomination.

Currently, the Sound Transit Board includes three members from Snohomish County, 10 from King County, four from Pierce County, and the Washington State Department of Transportation secretary. The county executive in each participating county appoints members from that county, and the respective county councils confirm the choices.
