EVERETT — Local health care, housing and church-based efforts to fight homelessness have received $2.2 million from Snohomish County.
The county awarded the money to 23 programs run by organizations such as Catholic Community Services, Housing Hope and Volunteers of America Western Washington.
In a release last week, County Executive Aaron Reardon said the projects should put the county closer to its goal of ending homelessness in the county.
“They are innovative and successfully show our dedication to eliminating this very real problem,” Reardon said.
Funding came from local document-recording fees. The goal is to support agencies with the same aims as the county’s 10-year affordable-housing plan, Everyone at Home Now.
The county has distributed this money for five years.
Most of the projects have received money in the past, but three were new this year:
$44,000 for the Friends of Youth project New Ground Everett, a six-unit apartment complex and case management for 12 young adults.
Nearly $25,000 for Mercy Housing Northwest to provide housing and case management to 22 homeless families with children at Family Tree Apartments in Everett.
Nearly $200,000 for a Volunteers of America Western Washington program to serve homeless people being released from jail or prison who suffer from severe mental illness, substance abuse or disabilities.
