LYNNWOOD — The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died outside a Lynnwood apartment building Friday as Stephen Lewis.
Lewis, 37, died shortly after police removed him from a dumpster at the Oxford Square Apartments in the 4800 block of 200th Street SW.
The cause of death is unknown and is pending further tests by the medical examiner.
Lynnwood officers were called to the apartments after witnesses reported seeing Lewis sweating profusely and running around the building. Police found Lewis inside the dumpster. He was bleeding from the mouth or nose and officers called for medical assistance, Lynnwood detective Sgt. Steve Rider said.
Police removed Lewis from the dumpster and placed him on the ground. When medics arrived, Lewis was convulsing and died at the scene.
The Everett Police Department and the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are investigating. It is common for an outside police agency to investigate when a person dies while police are present, Everett Sgt. Ted Olafson said.
"We’re helping Lynnwood establish an inquiry that is objective," he said.
